Traffic is moving again on U.S. Highway 56 east of Baldwin City after a Wednesday night thunderstorm knocked down several power poles and caused officials to close the highway for several hours.

Bulldog Days returning to free-of-charge origins

Baldwin City’s popular community workout program is returning this summer to its roots and this year it’s free. Bulldog Days will officially start at 6 a.m. Monday at Liston Stadium. It will continue at 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday until it ends Aug. 12.

Not only did the Baldwin High School track and field teams win the Frontier League meet here Thursday, they finished it with style. The BHS teams combined to win 11 events, set three league meet records and break one school record.

A 37-year-old Tonganoxie man pleaded guilty to child rape and three other counts Friday for molesting a girl when she was first 6 years old, Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said.
