Starkey doesn’t participate in candidate questions

Shane Starkey, one of the four candidates for the Baldwin City Council election doesn’t have a profile of questions.
White Dog Road improvements slated

The city of Eudora is tentatively closing N1300 Rd (White Dog Road), located just east of Route 1061, as of Tuesday, March 22, for road improvements. Keith A. Browning, director of Public Works and Douglas County engineer, announced the road closing in an e-mail to public officials and media outlets.

My decision to run was that our city is facing several major issues concerning taxation, livability and planning for the future. I feel from my experience on the council previously that I can help with these decisions.

As a BHS graduate and lifetime member of our community I am very interested in the future of USD 348 and I think my concerns are similar to many people in our community. I feel so strongly about the potential of USD 348 and I decided to seek a board position.

Pair of Bulldogs sign with Hutch CC to play football

Josh Hoffman and Tyler Schneider will remain teammates after they graduate from Baldwin High School in two months. The pair of BHS football seniors signed letters of intent to play next year at Hucthinson Community College. They signed those letters last month to continue their football careers.
Howard signs with Lehigh University

Allison Howard made history last month. She became the first Baldwin High School female senior this decade to sign a letter of intent to throw discus in college.
Soden earns academic all-state honor

Baldwin High School senior Colby Soden has one more accolade to add to his prep wrestling career. Last week, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association named Soden to the First-Team Academic All-State. BHS coach Kit Harris made the announcement Friday.
State basketball champions reunion

Ted Zuzzio had a once-in-a-lifetime weekend full of memories that will stay with him forever. Last Thursday, the Baldwin High School attended the Baldwin Education Foundation Luncheon. Former BHS football coach Merle Venable was honored at the event. Zuzzio was an assistant coach during Venable’s 19-year career at BHS.
Signal wins 13 KPA awards

The Kansas Press Association announced the results of the 2011 Awards of Excellence contest and the Baldwin City Signal won 13 awards.
School board candidate forum set for Tuesday

All 10 Baldwn USD 348 Board of Education candidates will have their chance to introduce themselves and provide voters a overview of their goals should they be elected. They will have that chance Tuesday at a candidate forum. It will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Baldwin Junior High School auditorium. It will only include the school board candidates.
Baldwin roots prepared pilot to take flight

Mike Carriker is living his dream as a pilot, but he has never forgot his roots…right here in Baldwin City. Carriker has flown all around the world as first a U.S. Navy and now as Boeing’s chief test pilot. He helped Boeing make history by piloting the new 787 Dreamliner, first airliner built mostly of composite plastic.
Former coach lauded for devotion

Stories about him are many and most of them bring laughter, yet those who tell those stories get serious when they reflect on how Merle Venable touched the lives of Baldwin High School students. His impact on USD 348 students was recognized last week at the Baldwin Education Foundation Luncheon.
