- Gus Wegner changed the lives of nearly everyone who entered Marion Springs Elementary School during the past 23 years and most have fond memories of his administration. Students, parents and staff who attended the rural USD 348 school had positive things to say about their former principal.

- For much of her childhood, Abbie Shockley has been known as a tomboy to her friends and family. The 11-year-old Baldwin City child is changing her image to be more feminine. Shockley, who just finished her last year in elementary school, will be entering her first pageant in two weeks.

- The Baker University men’s basketball 2011-12 basketball season will include several firsts. One will be the absence of former Heart of America Athletic Conference members William Jewell College and Lindenwood University, and the other will be seven new recruits who will put on a Baker jersey for the first time.

- With the Baldwin High School girls basketball summer activities winding down, coach Bob Martin took the time to reflect on the Bulldogs’ busy June. The past month has been filled with a team camp, weekly games at Baker University and a recent team camp at Kansas University.
