BHS football team wins 7-on-7 title; working hard during summer

Mike Berg’s Baldwin High School football team waited until the opportune moment — the final night — to play it’s best 7-on-7 games. After splitting most of their nights at the annual summer passing league, the Bulldogs never lost Monday night at Eudora High School.

Madeline Miley took a giant leap in her role this summer as a Baldwin City Community Theater cast member. She went from taking a smaller role as an extra during her first two summer productions to a slightly larger stage presence in last year’s presentation, “Seussical the Musical.”

Gus Wegner changed the lives of nearly everyone who entered Marion Springs Elementary School during the past 23 years and most have fond memories of his administration. Students, parents and staff who attended the rural USD 348 school had positive things to say about their former principal.

Shockley finds feminine side through pre-teen pageant

For much of her childhood, Abbie Shockley has been known as a tomboy to her friends and family. The 11-year-old Baldwin City child is changing her image to be more feminine. Shockley, who just finished her last year in elementary school, will be entering her first pageant in two weeks.

The Baker University men’s basketball 2011-12 basketball season will include several firsts. One will be the absence of former Heart of America Athletic Conference members William Jewell College and Lindenwood University, and the other will be seven new recruits who will put on a Baker jersey for the first time.

With the Baldwin High School girls basketball summer activities winding down, coach Bob Martin took the time to reflect on the Bulldogs’ busy June. The past month has been filled with a team camp, weekly games at Baker University and a recent team camp at Kansas University.

The sounds of shoes squeaking and basketballs thumping on the court in Collins Center was not from members of the Baker University men’s basketball team, but rather campers in head coach Brett Ballard’s Summer Basketball Camp.
