- Tony Weiss finished his first seven seasons at Baldwin High School successfully with state medals. However, the eighth and final season for the now 2011 BHS graduate, didn’t quite go as planned. A thigh injury, followed by an ankle injury, hurt Weiss’ chances of becoming a four-time state medalist in the 3,200-meter run in track.

- The Walking on Sunshine 5K run/walk has not always been in June and hasn’t always been associated with the Planes, Trains and Automobiles event, but it has been raising money for good causes for six years.

- For the second-straight year, Baldwin City will not have a fireworks show for the city’s residents, but there will be free swimming on July 4.
- Early Saturday morning storm snaps trees, power poles

- Baldwin City residents might have slept through the thunderstorm early Saturday morning, but they awoke to damage around town and working electricity. Strong storms rolled through the area after midnight with powerful winds and heavy rain. The storms lit up the sky with lightning and had wind gusts up to 70 mph.

- For the first time in three years, the Planes, Trains and Automobiles event Saturday did not end early due to rain. This was a feat organizer Steve Friend isn’t used to, but was glad to see.
- Students learn chemistry at summer science camp

- It may be summer, but the learning didn’t stop for a group of children Friday at the Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center. The 24 children, between the ages of 6 and 12, took part in the Mad Science Crazy Chemistry Day Camp, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, run by Mad Science Instructors Alicia DeBusk and Brian Klinzing.

- Mother Nature can always create problems for an outdoor summer musical. Director Mary Jane Mingus and the Baldwin City Community Theater cast of “Alice the Musical” found out first hand how weather can affect a show.

- Longtime Baldwin City resident Ginny Honomichl isn’t pleased about the lack of restrooms at the city parks and she let the Baldwin City Council hear about it Monday night.
