Bird walk planned for section of historic Baldwin Woods

June 6, 2011

Get your binoculars ready.

The Kansas Land Trust is hosting a bird walk through a section of the historic Baldwin Woods landscape.

At 8 a.m. June 25, KLT member and former staffer Steve Roels will lead the walk. Roels is an Audubon Society member with a life list that approaches almost 900 bird species.

The bird walk, the second one KLT will hold in June, will be through the Earles Easement, a 135-acre wooded area with trails near the southeast corner of Douglas County State Fishing Lake. The land has a variety of ecosystems, including one of the finest examples of the state’s original eastern oak-hickory forest.

Along with binoculars, participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes, long pants and hats. Insect repellent is also encouraged.

To assure a spot, e-mail carol@klt.org. The hike starts at 1780 North 300 Road, Baldwin City. Here's a map.
