- Spring Hill’s quickness and ability to drive to the basket proved too much for the Baldwin High School girls basketball team at home Friday night. The Broncos were the first team all season with guards who could score at will against Baldwin. They also handed Baldwin (6-2) its first Frontier League loss of the 2010-2011 season.

- Chad Berg made the most of his first-ever varsity boys’ basketball start at home Tuesday night. Berg missed early season practices because of an injury he suffered during the football season. Eight games into his freshman season, Berg found his way to the starting lineup.
- Four Bulldogs place at Bobcat Classic

- Baldwin High School’s wrestling squad survived its toughest tournament of the season last weekend. Four of Baldwin’s eight wrestlers at the Bobcat Classic finished in the top eight of their weight class. As a team, Baldwin placed 15th at the end of the two-day event, which is the state’s largest tournament with 34 teams from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Colorado.

- A portion of the final dollars from the November 2008 bond issue might soon be spent on the ball field complex near the elementary schools on the west edge of Baldwin City. As construction of the Performing Arts Center continues near Baldwin Junior High School, the USD 348 Board of Education is considering another bond issue project.

- Paul Dorathy wasn’t shocked with news of the governor recommended state cuts to education for this year or next year. In fact, he feels prepared for the looming budget cuts. The USD 348 superintendent just didn’t know how much might be taken out of the 2010-2011 or 2011-2012 budgets.
