Aubree Gustin led a balanced offense as Baker University upended Culver-Stockton 81-57 on Saturday in women’s basketball in Canton, Mo. Gustin scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Emily Gibson and Brittany Hines both contributed 14 points.

Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team learned how to finish off Frontier League rival Louisburg after its first contest Dec. 10. When the teams faced each other for a second time Friday, Myranda Behrens didn’t need to sink long three-pointers to catch the Wildcats and the Bulldogs didn’t blow a double-digit second half lead.

Scoring droughts at the ends and beginnings of quarters doomed the Baldwin High boys’ basketball team in its first home game of 2011. The Bulldogs struggled Friday to find the bucket during the final moments of quarters.
Eight BHS wrestlers finish in top 3 in their own weight class at Rossville

Baldwin High School’s wrestling squad kicked off 2011 with a successful tournament Saturday at Rossville. In their first action in three weeks, the Bulldogs began the new year with a third-place team finish. The Bulldogs scored 175.5 team points, right behind Topeka-Seaman, who scored 186.5.

The Baldwin Bird Club conducted its 69th annual Christmas Bird Count, sponsored by the National Audubon Society, on Sunday, Dec. 19. The Christmas Bird Count was established in 1900 as an alternative to the traditional Christmas Day Hunt.
BHS winter royalty candidates will be crowned at Friday’s game

Snow made for a short week for Baldwin High School students, which they will appropriately cap off with the school’s annual Winter Royalty ceremony at Friday night’s basketball game. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the boys’ game, which is set to begin around 7:30 p.m.
Winter storm closes schools; work crews clear roads, sidewalks

While cities north of Baldwin City were covered in snow Sunday morning, local residents waited patiently for winter to leave its mark. On Sunday night, it began. Snow continued to fall until Tuesday morning, blanketing the area with approximately six inches of snow. It was the first major snow of the season.
