Live blog: Baldwin High state wrestling - Morgan finished fifth at 125

SALINA — Baldwin High junior Andrew Morgan finished fifth in the 125-pound bracket. Morgan defeated Dalton Murdock of Parsons 7-1 for the second time this weekend. He pinned Murdock in the third period of their second round match.
This year was Morgan’s third time qualifying for the state tournament, but his first time being a top-six finisher. He went 3-2 here to finish 38-10 on the season.
There will be a full story on Morgan’s state tournament as well as the other Bulldogs in Thursday’s Signal.

SALINA — Andrew Morgan lost his consolation semifinal match 9-3 to Ulysses' Robbbie Hines. Morgan took a 2-0 lead in the second period, but fell behind later in the period.
Morgan will now wrestle Dalton Murdock of Parsons for the second time this weekend. Morgan pinned Murdock in the second round Friday. This match will be for fifth place in the 125 bracket.

SALINA — Well, it’s official, Baldwin High is down to one wrestler remaining in the state tournament here today.
Colton Bonner (215) and Jesse Austin (285) lost their consolation matches. Bonner lost to Eudora’s Boomer Mays, who lost a controversial match Friday, otherwise might be in the finals tonight. Bonner’s final record for the 2010-2011 season is 35-14.
Austin lost to Johnny Reardon of Clay Center, who is a much smaller, but quicker wrestler in the 285 bracket. Austin’s senior season finishes with record of 30-8.
Tucker Clark (112) lost his second match of the day. He fell to Prairie View’s Kaleb Konitzer 5-2. Clark finished the season with a 31-13 record.
Andrew Morgan (125) is the only Bulldog remaining in the tournament. He will compete next round. Morgan will be wrestling for third through sixth place today.

SALINA — Freshman Tucker Clark won his first match of the day. Clark defeated Justus Seaton of Bonner Springs by a score of 2-1 in the consolation cross-bracketing round.
Clark advances to the consolation quarterfinals, which begins at 10:45 a.m. A win by Clark will automatically make him an all-state wrestler as he will finish in the top six.
Baldwin’s Colton Bonner (215) and Jesse Austin (285) will compete later this round.

SALINA — A review of the first day here at the Class 4A tournament doesn’t include too many Baldwin High School highlights, but there were a few for the Bulldogs.
Leading the way was junior Andrew Morgan. He advanced to the 125-pound semifinals and automatically earned a top-six finish.
Morgan pinned his way to win the first two matches. In his semifinal match, Morgan took a 2-0 lead, before losing 7-3. Morgan will wrestle two matches today, starting with the 12:15 p.m. round, and compete for third through sixth place.
The other Bulldog to win a first-round match was junior Colton Bonner. He beat Wamego's Taylor Shaffer in the 215-pound match.
Colton Bonner lost his second match of the day in the quarterfinal round. Bonner was pinned by Hugoton’s Colten Lissolo, who was 32-7 heading into the state tournament. Bonner will wrestle in the consolation cross-bracketing round, which starts at 9 a.m.
Two Bulldogs their first matches, but won their first-round consolation matches. Freshman Tucker Clark (112 pounds) and senior Jesse Austin (285) lost in the opening round, but are still alive in the round that starts at 9 a.m.
Junior Cody Sellers (130) and senior Greg Schiffelbein (140) lost both of their matches and are out of the state tournament.
Clark, Bonner and Austin will wrestle in the consolation cross-bracketing round. It starts at 9 a.m. at the Bicentennial Center.

SALINA — Andrew Morgan lost his semifinal match 7-3. He will compete Saturday to finish 3rd through 6th.
Morgan scored a reversal to take a 2-0 lead in the second period. Prairie View’s Bo Newport scored a reversal and nearfall-3 to take a 5-2 lead.
Morgan, Bonner, Clark and Austin will all wrestle tomorrow in the consolation bracket.

SALINA — Tucker Clark and Jesse Austin will continue their state tournaments on Saturday.
Clark won by injury default. Austin won 4-2 in his first-round consolation match. They will wrestle in the next consolation round, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Greg Schiffelbein and Cody Sellers lost their second match and were eliminated from the state tournament. Schiffelbein finished the season 27-13 while Sellers ended his season 31-14.

SALINA — Andrew Morgan will be earning his first state medal this weekend as he advanced to the Class 4A semifinals.
Morgan won his 125-pound quarterfinal match by fall in the third period. Morgan led 5-1 before pinning Dalton Murdock of Parsons, who was 29-6.
His semifinal match will be later today. This latest win automatically makes Morgan a top-six finisher.
Colton Bonner will be competing in the 215-pound quarterfinals later this round.

SALINA — One more Baldwin High wrestler has moved on to the second round, while four will compete in the consolation bracket later today.
BHS junior Colton Bonner (215) won his first-ever state match by pin. He beat Wamego's Taylor Shaffer, who was 35-2.
Bonner trailed early 2-0, but fought back and forth in the second and third periods. He took a 6-4 lead during the final minute before pinning Shaffer.
BHS senior Jesse Austin lost his opening match 7-4. He fell behind early and was never able to come back against Fort Scott’s Drew Bryant.

SALINA — After four matches in the first round, Baldwin High School has only one winner hee at the Class 4A state wrestling tournament.
Junior Andrew Morgan (125 pounds) won his match by fall. Morgan pinned Yancey Edson of Circle in the second period. He led 6-0 before pinning Edson.
Freshman Tucker Clark (112) lost his first state match by fall. Clark lost to Dustin Reed of Colby, who finished runner-up at 103 last year to Baldwin’s Bryce Shoemaker.
Junior Cody Sellers (130) also lost his first match by pin in the first period. This is Sellers’ first year at state, too.
Senior Greg Schiffelbein (140) lost his first match 8-7. He led 7-6 after trailing 2-0, but his opponent won with a late takedown.
Junior Colton Bonner (215) and senior Jesse Austin (285) will be wrestling later this round.
