- SPRING HILL — Bob Martin walked out of the gymnasium here Tuesday feeling quite happy and with plenty of reason to be pleased. Four days after a last-second victory over Ottawa on senior night, Martin’s Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team crushed the Broncos on their senior night.

- Bryce Shoemaker will have to wait another year for his chance to become Baldwin High School’s first wrestler to win two state championships. The BHS sophomore injured his foot Feb. 15, just three days before the Class 4A regional tournament.

- Jaris Wommack scored a game-high 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and pulled down 11 rebounds, sparking Baker University to a 61-53 men’s basketball victory over Missouri Valley on Saturday at the Collins Center. It marked the Wildcats’ fifth consecutive home victory.

- Rainbow Experience Preschool parents spoke out Monday at the Baldwin City Council meeting against proposed increased speed limits. They were heard loud and clear. After a brief discussion, the city council unanimously approved to maintain the speed limit on Chapel Street in front of the preschool.

- HOLTON — Jesse Austin proved studying your opponent can benefit, even in wrestling. In his 285-pound finals match, the Baldwin High School senior used his previous knowledge to his advantage. Austin pinned De Soto’s Hayden Chandler in 40 seconds to win the Class 4A regional title.

- Although there were 497 criminal reports filed and 537 tickets distributed by the Baldwin City Police Department in 2010, it was an average year according to Greg Neis. The BCPD chief said the numbers from the 2010 statistics report were about par for the past couple of years.
