He led the Green Bay Packers to their fourth Super Bowl crown in his fifth year as coach of the storied NFL organization. His Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 Sunday in Super Bowl XLV.

- Winter weather has been problematic for the Baldwin High School wrestling team since its home tournament Jan. 29, but it will be hosting the Frontier League tournament Friday and Saturday. Since the Baldwin Invitational Tournament, the Bulldogs have missed five days of practice and three scheduled duals.

- On Tuesday night, the Baldwin High School girls basketball team was all about surviving with a victory, even if execution wasn’t the prettiest. Four games in five days wore out the Bulldogs, who won three of the four games in the span from Friday to Tuesday. “It ended up being a good weekend for us,” coach Bob Martin said.

- After losing six-straight games, the Baldwin High School boys basketball team enjoyed a much-needed victory Tuesday at home Tuesday. The Bulldogs avenged a previous loss, which was the second in the string of losses during the past three weeks.

- Mike Grossner and his Baker University football coaching staff announced the signing of 34 athletes for the 2011-2012 season. While none of the players have put on the black and orange uniforms, Grossner and his staff believe it might be their best class ever.

- Changes to USD 348 facilities in August have created changes to the streets around the old Baldwin Elementary School Primary Center building. In August, the Baldwin School District opened the new BESPC building on the west edge of town.

- In the Take Charge Challenge competition between Baldwin, Paola, Gardner and Ottawa, residents are encouraged to reduce their energy use. The winning community will receive $100,000 to help fund an efficiency project, money that comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

- Despite last week’s heavy winter storm and Tuesday’s snowfall, the City of Baldwin City staff has plenty of supplies to treat the roads for the remainder of the season. Last week’s storm dropped around 10-12 inches of snow on the Baldwin City area.
