Boys basketball

Dustin Leochner's debut as the Baldwin High boys' basketball coach was a successful one as his Bulldogs defeated Santa Fe Trail 57-44 at home Friday.

The first-year head coach was thrilled to win the opener and the first of four games in eight days.

“I'm happy with the win,” Leochner said. “Defensively, I'd prefer us not to foul quite that much. We put them on the line a lot down the stretch. We rebounded the ball well. We executed fairly well and everybody played well. It was a good team win.”

A pair of Bulldogs scored in double figures to lead BHS. Junior Caleb Gaylord led Baldwin with 14 points, while sophomore Cornell Brown added 11 points. Nine BHS players scored in the contest.

Baldwin never trailed in the contest. It's largest lead was 22 points late in the third quarter, when it led 42-20. BHS finished the game by running out the final 57 seconds.

BHS will play Monday and Tuesday in a tournament at Louisburg against Chanute and Anderson County.
