Baldwin High soccer players aim to improve conditioning during early season practices

Despite losing all female players from last fall’s squad, Baldwin High School soccer coach Mark Joslyn has seen an increase in participants during the first week of practice. The 2010 BHS soccer team had about 35 players, but it was a coed squad.

Mike Spielman will have no trouble finding female runners to help defend the Baldwin High School girls’ cross country streak of four state titles. In fact, the BHS coach enters his 20th season with the largest number of girls he’s ever had on the team.

Increased summer workouts and training has made the first few practices easy for Mike Berg and his Baldwin High School football players. During June and half of July, Berg and his players were lifting weights and conditioning daily, while also practicing twice a week.
Zuzzio receives honors for track title, 500 basketball wins

Ted Zuzzio earned a couple pieces of hardware for his team’s success in both basketball and track and field at two area meetings recently. The longtime Baldwin High School girls’ track and field coach and Baldwin Junior High School/BHS girls’ basketball coach was honored by his peers for accomplishments during the 2010-2011 school year.
Bulldog Days bounces back with return of free workouts

Bulldog Days made a resurgence this summer, and instructor George McCrary couldn’t be happier to see more Baldwin City community members attending the free workout sessions.
Mabee grant boosts Baker University Mulvane Hall project funding

Baker University recently took a big step forward in raising funds for the Mulvane Transformation Project. The university found out this month the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., has made a challenge grant of $750,000 toward the renovation and addition to Mulvane Science Hall on the Baldwin City campus.

At just 13 years of age, Jackson Barth already knows about waking up early some mornings feeling less than enthusiastic about going to work. Despite the early wake-up time and occasional bad weather, Jackson, founder and CEO of 2 Kids and a Mom Recycling, sacrifices his time and effort to help the environment.
BHS band ends busy summer, prepares for school year

Will Cooper and the Baldwin High School band have been busy during August with their annual camp and performing twice last week. Cooper, BHS band instructor, and his students had their annual camp Aug. 1-5 in preparation for their two performances.

What did Baker University fall sports teams receive for having two teams winning their conference tournaments last season? High expectations. Although if having high expectations placed on your shoulders is the only thing you have to worry about, something is working correctly.
BHS volleyball players build on busy summer

Although Baldwin High School volleyball participant numbers are low this fall, coach Kelly Brown is excited about the upcoming season. Brown’s squad has only 21 players this fall. Most of the players were on last year’s squad with only a handful of freshmen added to the team this fall.
BHS girls’ tennis squad enjoying cooler summer temperatures

Like many Baldwin High School fall coaches, Justin Hoffman is pleased with the early progress of his girls’ tennis squad. His Bulldogs began practice Monday and have been working hard every afternoon to prepare the for fall season.
