Starting Tuesday, motorists who travel between Lawrence and Baldwin City on County Roads 1055, 458 and 460 will have to get used to construction delays.
Keith Browning, director of public works for Douglas County, said pavement milling and overlay work will begin on those roads Tuesday and it will last through Sept. 24.
“It’ll be a little over two weeks,” said Browning. “We anticipate being done by Sept. 24. It’s weather related and you never know. Basically, we’re telling people to avoid the area when possible.”
The work is scheduled to start at 458 at County Road 1500, go east to County Road 1600, then south on 1055, then back east on 460 through the Vinland area to County Road 1057.
Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and a pilot vehicle and motorists should expect significant delays through the project area, he said. It is part of a $835,772 project approved by the county commission.
