- POMONA — Momentum from Saturday helped the Baldwin High School volleyball team finish its regular season with a bang here Tuesday night. Baldwin won seven of its last 10 matches during the past week to close the regular season playing its best volleyball. The Bulldogs hope the momentum will carry over to this Saturday’s Class 4A regional tournament in Topeka.

- The Baldwin Bulldogs took advantage of a trio of early Ottawa High turnovers Friday to jump out to a quick lead that it never lost. The Bulldogs (6-1) converted those Cyclones mistakes into first quarter points. They continued to roll over the Cyclones (3-4) and won 47-12 at Liston Stadium.

- Baldwin High School’s cross country teams are back on top of the Frontier League. A year ago, the BHS girls’ team won the league title, while the boys’ squad finished third. On Thursday, both BHS teams easily won their respective league championships at the Rim Rock Farm.

- Baldwin High school sophomore Austin Kraus had a career game, junior Clint Chapman scored the winning goal and junior Louis Joslyn had all three assists. Yet, Tuesday’s victory over De Soto was for the seniors. The BHS soccer team (8-7-1) ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats on its senior night.

- Dear Editor, I want to take the opportunity to thank the Baldwin City community for another successful Maple Leaf Festival. The multitude of volunteers that come together to help with the safety, setup and teardown are amazing.

- Discussions about approving a rezoning recommendation became slightly heated between Baldwin City Council members Monday night. The city council was considering an ordinance that would approve the Baldwin City Planning Commission’s recommendation to rezone property at 913 Ames Street from commercial to single-family residential.

- About 70 people listened to the Kansas 10th District House candidates answer questions Oct. 12 at Baker University. Incumbent Democrat Tony Brown and challenger TerriLois Gregory, a Republican, discussed taxes, education funding, improving the economy and other issues during a forum sponsored by the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce.
