Bulldogs roll Cyclones, win district opener
Three early turnovers by Ottawa helped by Baldwin High football team jump out to a quick lead that it never lost Friday night. The Bulldogs (6-1) scored touchdowns after the first two turnovers and continued to roll 47-12 over the Cyclones (3-4).
“This win feels really good,” Baldwin’s Ryan Rogers said. “It’s nice to get that first district win. We played a lot better in the second half than we did in the first half.”
Ottawa fumbled on the opening drive of the game. Baldwin’s Jake Mindez recovered the fumble. Six plays later, Rogers threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Asher Hannon to take a 6-0 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Cyclones fumbled and the Bulldogs recovered again. Despite two offensive penalties on the drive, Baldwin scored its second touchdown of the first quarter.
Both teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter as Baldwin led 20-6 at halftime. The second half was all Baldwin as it scored touchdowns on its first four possessions of the half.
The Bulldogs will play Santa Fe Trail at home next Friday and Ottawa will play Eudora.
