School board hears concerns from patrons

Although there is a public hearing on the issue slated for Nov. 11, more than a dozen Baldwin School District patrons expressed concerns Monday about the possible closing of rural elementary schools. While the Baldwin School Board didn’t discuss the issue, the small contingent of patrons at the meeting wanted their opinions voiced.

Organizers ready for annual Maple Leaf influx

It’s that annual time in Baldwin City where thousands of visitors flock to town to shop for homemade crafts, sample delicious foods and view colorful fall foliage. The Maple Leaf Festival was founded in 1958. City. It’s now celebrated on the third full weekend of October. This year is the 53rd annual celebration of the festival.

Bulldogs sweep Frontler League team titles

Baldwin High School’s cross country teams are back on top of the Frontier League. A year ago, the BHS girls’ team won the league title, while the boys’ squad finished third. On Thursday, both BHS teams easily won their respective league championships. Both Bulldog teams had comparable scores with the girls scoring 22 points and the boys 23 points.

Three early turnovers by Ottawa helped by Baldwin High football team jump out to a quick lead that it never lost Friday night. The Bulldogs (6-1) scored touchdowns after the first two turnovers and continued to roll 47-12 over the Cyclones (3-4).

Back-to-back league volleyball titles for BJHS eighth graders

Baldwin Junior High School’s eighth-grade varsity volleyball team became the first to win back-to-back Frontier League titles on Saturday. This was the final tournament for the squad, who finished its junior high career with a 38-3 record and four tournament championships (two Eudora titles and two Frontier League titles).
