Six BHS soccer players earn postseason honors

Six Baldwin High School soccer players recently received postseason honors by coaches from the Frontier League, southeast region and the state. The awards come on the brink on a 9-8-1 season by the Bulldogs. That’s the second-best record for the program since it started in 2005.
BHS directors thrilled with fall musical performance

Baldwin High School teachers Katherine Cook and Beth Nelson were ecstatic about last weekend’s fall musical, “Hello Dolly.” Cook and Nelson co-directed the BHS fall musical, which took the stage Friday and Saturday nights. Cook was the stage director, while Nelson directed the music.
Wildcats finish season winning five straight games

From the second-straight season, Baker University’s football team flew under the radar but managed to record another winning campaign. Baker began the season 0-3 and fell out of the NAIA top 25 with a trio of close losses to top-10 teams, two of which were on the road. The Wildcats (7-4) rallied to win seven of their final eight contests. That streak included the final five games of the season.
BHS football team benefitted from offseason training

Mike Berg can point to a single reason why his Baldwin High School football team flip-flopped its record from a year ago. Baldwin’s 2009 campaign finished in dismal fashion with a 62-0 loss to Bishop Miege, who went on to win the Class 4A state title.
Zuzzio earns career milestone with 500th win

Ted Zuzzio tried to be humble about his milestone victory that was approaching this fall, but his family and players’ parents didn’t let is pass by without some recognition. On Monday, the longtime basketball coach in the Baldwin School District earned his 500th career victory. Zuzzio’s Baldwin Junior High School eighth-grade varsity girls’ team beat Pioneer Ridge 39-11, at home.
Community Emergency Fund receives large donation
Energy efficiency program also discussed at meeting

A group of Baldwin City residents met last Thursday to discuss ways to help community members in need of assistance during the approaching winter. The groups at the meeting were the Community Emergency Fund, Baldwin Energy Efficiency Program and East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation.
Santa begins holiday season at annual festival
Baker University wins Light Parade float contest

On Saturday, Santa Claus swooped into Baldwin City for his annual one-day pre-Christmas visit before leaving as quickly as he came. Santa started his day with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center. On Saturday night, he starred in the light parade before displaying his well-known generosity with community children.
