- Despite the unpleasant need to cut the Baldwin School District’s budget because of decreased state funding, we’ve been pleased with how the tough chore has been handled by the school board and how the community has responded.

- Potentially good news came Monday night for the Baldwin School District before the school board meeting. On Monday, the Kansas Senate approved the state’s $13.6 billion budget, which doesn’t include any cuts to education funding.

- Baldwin School District patrons came out in droves Monday night to the monthly school board meeting. Most of the patrons were there to support seventh grade athletics or speak about the possibility of closing one of the rural elementary schools. Of the nearly 90 people at the meeting, 37 stood up and voiced their opinions.

- Three days after being swept by rival Eudora, the Baldwin High School softball squad was excited to split a doubleheader at Gardner. On Friday, the Bulldogs put the surprising losses to the Cardinals behind them. It was just three days, but they headed to Gardner with a renewed attitude.

- GARDNER — Baldwin High School’s baseball team almost pulled off its second straight seventh-inning rally here Tuesday night. Last week, the Bulldogs (6-12) split with rival Eudora after scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game of the doubleheader.

- WELLSVILLE — Katie Kehl’s return to her former school brought her good luck Friday. After years of attending school in the Wellsville district, Kehl transferred to Baldwin High School this year.

- The Baldwin High School tennis team was more than excited after finishing its Class 4A regional tournament Saturday at Topeka-Hayden. BHS will be sending three regional placers to the state tournament this upcoming weekend in Pratt.

- Last weekend’s Frontier League track and field meet was a nice homecoming and finale for the Baldwin Junior High School teams. The Bulldogs broke one school record, tied another, won 12 events and won one team title. Both coaches were happy with the results.
