Baldwin Junior High School’s track and field teams competed in one last meet before their final one, the Frontier League meet on Saturday.
On Monday, the Bulldogs headed to Eudora and left with two team titles on the girls’ side. The BJHS eighth graders scored 91 points, while the seventh grade team scored 88 points to win the meet.
Baldwin won four eighth grade girls’ events and four seventh grade girls’ events at the meet. The eighth grade winners were Morgan Lober in the 100-meter hurdles (18.0) and the 200-meter dash (27.8) and Katie Jones in the 1,600-meter run (5:56.6).
The eighth grade 1,600-meter relay team ran 4:32 to win the final race. Competing on the relay were Hannah Hutton, Jones, Ashton Temple and Lober.
The seventh grade girls’ winners were Jordan Hoffman in the shot put (33 feet, 11 inches), Corey Valentine in the 100 hurdles (19.0) and Molly Ogden in the 800-meter run (2:42). The Bulldogs also won the 400-meter relay (59.3). The relay team members were Devyn Harman, Maddie Ogle, Valentine and Hoffman.
On the boys’ side, Baldwin’s seventh grade team scored 80.5 points to place fourth and the eighth graders finished with 67 points. Baldwin won six events on the on the boys’ side, three in each grade.
Ethan Hartzell won two for the eighth grade boys’ team. He won the high jump (5-4) and the 800 (2:15.3). Chad Berg was the other winner. Berg jumped 17-5 in the long jump to take first.
Clayton Saving was a two-time winner in the seventh grade boys’ events. He won the shot put (35-5) and the discus (115-3). The other winner was Joel Halford (13.2).
All BJHS teams will finish their season at the league meet Saturday at home. The field events, except throwing events, will begin at 9 a.m. The throwing events will start at 4 p.m. Friday at Baldwin High School. On Saturday, the 3,200-meter run will start at 10 a.m., with the preliminary races at 11 a.m. and finals at 12:30 p.m.
