Heat advisory extended for Douglas County until 7 p.m. Wednesday

June 23, 2010

The extreme heat and high humidity across our area has led the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for parts of northeast Kansas until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the weather service, temperatures will climb into the mid 90s and heat indices will hit 105 to 110 degrees. The hottest times of day will be between 2 and 7 p.m., but temperatures will be slow to fall through the late evening hours.

Prolonged exposure to high heat indices can lead to rapid dehydration, heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. The weather service urges anyone who must be outside to take precautions, including limiting your exposure and your physical activity. You're also urged to drink lots of fluid to replenish those that are lost.

The heat advisory covers the following counties and includes Lawrence, Baldwin City, Eudora, Emporia and Ottawa:

Douglas

Lyon

Osage

Franklin

Coffey

Anderson
