School board, BCRC agree on ball field proposal

After some slight adjustments were agreed upon, the Baldwin School Board approved the Baldwin City Recreation Commission’s ball field proposal. A small committee of school board members and BCRC employees met several weeks ago to discuss the agreement that was proposed by BCRC. The school board unanimously approved the proposal at the Jan. 11 meeting.
City council listens to mobile home residents’ concerns

A group of mobile home park residents spoke Monday night and the Baldwin City Council listened. There were 10 people from the park just south of Baldwin Junior High School who registered their complaints about an ordinance the city was considering to restrict parking on an alley in the park.
Baker takes aim at helping Haiti

Efforts are under way at Baker University to help earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Both monetary and supply donations will be accepted through Jan. 28. The Rev. Ira DeSpain is spearheading the financial efforts. The situation in Haiti hits close to home for him.
Bulldogs’ losing skid ends with BIT victory

If Eric Toot’s solution to a four-game losing skid is to play the first round of your home tournament, it sure worked Tuesday night. After dropping the previous four contests, Toot’s Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team came out ready to play its first-round contest of the Baldwin Invitational Tournament. The No. 4- seeded Bulldogs crushed No. 5-seeded Wellsville 57-29.
BHS girls begin 2010 with victories

Time away from the court may have helped the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team. BHS headed into Christmas break with a 3-3 record after a home loss to Metro Academy on Dec. 18. The Bulldogs’ game at Eudora Jan. 8 was postponed to Feb. 9 because of winter weather.
Five BHS wrestlers place at Bobcat Classic

BASEHOR — Kit Harris left here Saturday evening feeling good about his team’s performance at the annual 32-team wrestling tournament. Harris’ Baldwin High School wrestling squad held its own at the Bobcat Classic, which is regarded as one of the state’s biggest and most competitive events.
