Junior Emily Gibson scored 24 points and snagged 19 rebounds, sparking Baker University’s women’s basketball team to a 59-40 victory over Culver-Stockton on Saturday in Canton, Mo., as the Wildcats improved to 16-9 overall and 12-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

PAOLA — Justin Vander Tuig led all scorers with 30 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team fell here Tuesday night. The 6-foot-9 junior lit up the Paola defense with shot after shot all game long. He made layups, turn-around shots and even 15-foot jumpers.

PAOLA — A strong first half here Tuesday night helped the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team separate itself from the home squad. After winning a tightly-contested Frontier League game Friday against Louisburg, the BHS girls wasted no time in putting Paola away Tuesday.
Hanson, Shoemaker pace Bulldogs at league tournament

EUDORA — Josh Hanson added to his legacy as a Baldwin High School wrestler here Saturday. The 135-pound BHS senior dominated his way to his second straight Frontier League championship. Along with freshman Bryce Shoemaker, Hanson led BHS, which had seven placers in the top four and finished in fifth place as a team.

City council has lengthy work session

Longtime Baldwin City resident Vivian Courtney turned 100 years old today. The Signal will feature her in a story in next week’s paper as she reflects on what she’s seen during that century and her “secrets” — if any — to such a long life.
BHS students win state design challenge again

Winning a competition for the second straight year doesn’t make the victory any less exciting than the first time. At least it didn’t for the Baldwin High School Real World Design Challenge team.
