Bulldogs place eight wrestlers at BIT

A home tournament might have been just the answer for the Baldwin High School wrestling team, who may have had its worst meet Jan. 23 at Holton. After the tournament in Holton, BHS coach Kit Harris said his squad didn’t improve from the previous week. That was the first time all season he could remember that happening. One week later, the Bulldogs hosted the Baldwin Invitational Tournament and results were better.
Early lead propels BHS girls over Northern Heights

Baldwin High’s girls’ basketball rebounded after Saturday’s loss at Wellsville by putting Tuesday’s game away in the first quarter. BHS lost the Top Gun Tournament championship to Spring Hill Saturday night.
Bailey to be honored at annual Chocolate Auction

For the second time in a four-month span, retired Baker University professor Walt Bailey will be honored at a community event. In October, Bailey was chosen to be the grand marshal of the 52nd annual Maple Leaf Festival. On Sunday, he will be the honored artist at the Baldwin City Arts Council’s 22nd annual Chocolate Auction.
Spelling bee winners headed to county contest

Four Baldwin School District students will be heading to Lawrence on Saturday to compete in the Douglas County Spelling Bee. The three elementary students and one junior high student won the spelling bees at their schools. Now they will be competing for a chance to participate in the state-wide contest.

Junior Emily Gibson scored 17 points and hauled in 14 rebounds, lifting Baker University to a 65-59 women’s basketball victory over Lindenwood on Saturday in St. Charles, Mo.
BJHS eighth grade boys improve to 9-0

A dominant second quarter Monday evening propelled the Baldwin Junior High School eighth grade varsity boys’ basketball team to a 9-0 start on the season.
Post players lead BHS boys to second straight victory

Justin Vander Tuig and Zach Wright led the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team to its second straight win Tuesday night. The pair of BHS post players combined for 38 points and 33 rebounds as the Bulldogs (6-7) took down Northern Heights 50-41 at home.
Income tax help is available at library

Residents filing income tax forms electronically can obtain the help they need at the Baldwin City Library during the filing season, which ends April 15.
U.S. Highway 56 meeting scheduled for Feb. 11

The Kansas Department of Transportation and its hired consultants will have an open house to outline recommendations from the U.S. Highway 56 Corridor Management Plan from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center.

We listened with interest Monday as the Baldwin City Council was given a presentation on the Parks Master Plan, which outlines recreational improvement suggestions for the next 25 years.
Parks Master Plan eyed by city council

A Parks and Trail Master Plan spanning the next five to 25 years was unveiled to the Baldwin City Council at Monday’s meeting. Darron Ammann and Wendy Van Duyne of the firm Bartlett and West gave the 45-minute presentation on their recommendations, which they said reflected what a community survey and other input had said residents wanted.
H1N1 flu clinic set for today at BHS

There will be an H1N1 flu shot clinic from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Baldwin High School.
