Local family to offer Christmas dinner to patrons

BHS wrestling team places third at Ottawa duals

Baldwin High School’s wrestling team kicked off its dual season with a bang Saturday at Ottawa High. In their first dual action of the season, the Bulldogs finished 4-1 and placed third as a team at a tournament contested in a dual format. Along with the team finish, seven Bulldogs finished the day with undefeated records at the dual tournament.
BHS well represented on all-area fall teams

The Lawrence Journal-World recently announced its fall all-area teams, which included the athlete and coach of the year for football, soccer, cross country and volleyball. Baldwin High School earned several nominations, including three athletes of the year.

Both Baldwin High School basketball coaches are happy to have winning records after five games, but they don’t share the same feelings on Christmas break. After five games during a 12-day stretch to open the season, both BHS teams are above .500 and loaded with young talent and senior leaders.
City council denies U.S. 56 property rezoning request

Despite a lengthy discussion with Baldwin City Planning Commission members and a plea from property owner Greg Wright, the Baldwin City Council denied the zoning change that’s been on the table for months.
BESIC students help replenish Community Emergency Fund

Local elementary students and their families brought Christmas cheer to some Baldwin City families with a significant contribution to the Community Emergency Fund. From Nov. 29 to Dec. 15, the staff at Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center collected money from its fourth- and fifth-grade students.
Christmas tree recycling site moved to U.S. 56 Highway

The Baldwin City Christmas Tree Recycling drop off has moved this year. It has been at the corner of Third and Fremont streets by the Baldwin City Municipal Swimming Pool, but this year it will be at the “Triangle Park”, which is at the junction of U.S. Highway 56 and Washington Street.
