Baldwin High basketball sweeps Paola to open Frontier League action

Baldwin 53, Paola 42

Despite missing more than half of its free throws, the Baldwin High boys’ basketball team (3-2) won its opening Frontier League contest at home Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs made only 14 of 29 foul shots, but still beat the Panthers 53-42. Baldwin did make eight of 12 free throws during the final 2:06 to seal the victory.

Baldwin has now won three consecutive games. It’s next game will be Jan. 7.

Girls basketball

Baldwin 50, Paola 47

A 15-1 run during the fourth quarter helped the Baldwin High girls’ basketball team (4-1) win its opening Frontier League contest, 50-47, at home Tuesday night.

Baldwin trailed 33-28 at the end of the third quarter after not scoring during the final 5:20 of the quarter. Baldwin scored 15 of the next 16 points to take a 43-34 lead with 3:30 remaining in the game.

Paola sank a three-pointer with four second remaining to cut the lead in half. Baldwin ran out the final seconds to win the league contest.
