Baker women’s soccer beats William Jewell, advances to Fab Four

DECATUR, Ala. – The Baker University women’s soccer team continues to live the dream. The Wildcats defeated William Jewell by a commanding 5-2 decision on Thursday to advance to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Semifinals.

Bulldog wrestlers set to begin season Saturday

Although Bryce Shoemaker is the only returning state medalist, he thinks this might be Baldwin High School’s year to bring home a state wrestling team trophy. Shoemaker enters his sophomore season as the returning 103-pound state champion. He will be moving up two weight classes this winter, and his expectations for the Bulldogs have grown, as well.
BHS girls’ basketball squad has high expectations

Bob Martin and his players are aiming for a destination Baldwin High School girls’ basketball teams haven’t seen since 1997 — Salina. It’s been a goal of the program for more than a decade, and the Bulldogs have come close several times.
BHS boys basketball players ready to improve from last year

With a cast of returning players to compliment his 6-foot-9-inch senior Justin Vander Tuig, Baldwin High School boys’ basketball coach is hoping to improve on last year’s 6-15 record. Vander Tuig, who has been the centerpiece of the Bulldogs’ team during his first three years at BHS, will once again be playing that role.
Toys for Tots drive underway at BHS

Baldwin High School teacher and coach Kit Harris is once again sponsoring his annual Toys for Tots drive and he is seeking donations.
Nicaragua mission accomplished

A small group of Baldwin City and area residents helped build an addition to a church in Nicaragua, but it was the human relationships they built that made the recent trip memorable. The 11 individuals from northeast Kansas traveled to Jinotepe, Nicaragua, as a group of missionaries.
Work progresses on performing arts center; crews aim for summer finishing date

It’s been more than two years since voters approved building a new performing arts center as part of the 2008 USD 348 bond issue, and it looks be another six or seven months until the facility is completed. Construction began on the $4.7 million project last spring, with much of the base structure being completed when school started in August.
