Resurfacing project begins on U.S. 56

August 31, 2010

Road construction took another route on U.S. Highway 56 Monday and Kansas Department of Transportation crews will be resurfacing the highway through October.

The resurfacing project started at the junction with U.S. Highway 59 and will continue east to the Johnson County line. It is a 12-mile stretch of highway.

Flaggers will coordinate with pilot cars to guide traffic through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays of at least 15 minutes through the duration of the project. An 11-foot lane width restriction will also be in place.

This work is in addition to what’s being done at the Baldwin Junction.

Any idea if this is actual resurfacing, or are they going to do that chip-and-seal nonsense that seems to be the rage across the rest of the county?
