Greek organizations help with fund raising
August 26, 2010
Baker University’s Greek organizations — five fraternities and five sororities — have a long history of actively supporting philanthropies through volunteer and fund-raising efforts.
“We are always looking at ways to make sure our Greek organizations are involved in the community,” said Brett Bruner, director of student life. “Our fraternities and sororities have a direct impact on national and local organizations because of their dedication.”
In the past year, fraternities and sororities participated in the following events:
• Up ‘til Dawn: Greek organizations raised $13,133 of the $18,068 that the campus raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
• Greek Week Penny Wars to Benefit Haiti Relief: Raised $406.52
• Greek Week Hunger Hunt to Benefit Baldwin City Community Food Pantry: Collected and donated 2,500 items
Several individual chapters participated in various events for their philanthropies:
• Alpha Chi Omega and Sigma Phi Epsilon: Spiking Out Volleyball tournament to raise funds for victims of domestic violence and youth AIDS
• Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Tau Delta: Worked with former athletic director Dan Harris to make over the backyard of a neighbor
• Delta Delta Delta: Delta House of Pancakes to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
• Phi Mu: Pizza Palooza to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network
• Zeta Tau Alpha: Several projects to raise funds for breast cancer education and awareness
