MediaCom optic cable cut again; service out for unknown time

September 29, 2009

For the third time in recent weeks, Baldwin City residents have been without cable TV and Internet service since Tuesday morning after MediaCom's fiber optic cable line was cut.

The location of the cut line is unknown at this time, so it is unknown when service will be restored. No other information was available regarding the situation.

I was told it was at the junction, again. Are we going to go through this until the US 59 project is completed?

I was thinking the same thing. Does anybody working out there know where this fiber is? Can't it be marked?

I can tell you exactly how long it was out Jeff. It went out at 8:36 am and didn't come back on until 3:56 pm. I was told the state/contractors asked Mediacom to move their lines quite some time ago and Mediacom didn't do it for a long time. When they finally did move them, they didn't mark where they moved them to.

I, for one, will not be going through this until the US 59 project is complete. Five times in six weeks...two times due to the highway...three times NOT due to the highway. I'm done with them.

You can get lightning fast internet from Embarq DSL. Costs more, a bit, but Mediacom? Coathanger operation.

Its a shame some people find it accepatable to post information that is untrue. The fact is, Mediacom filed the location information with the state who signed off on the permit request. This information was available to the construction crew via Kansas onecall (digsafe). So the issue while still annoying, is not due to the fact that Mediacomm acted in a manner inconssistent with best business practices, the fault lies with the backhoe operator who did not follow procedure.
