KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Saturday’s Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup here between Baker University and Avila was sloppy, but one team earned its first victory of the season. Losing four of their last five games dating back to last season, the Baker Wildcats needed a win. Their wish was granted with a 41-0 routing of the Avila Eagles.
BHS volleyball squad enjoys thrill of victory

GARDNER — It took three weeks, but the Baldwin High School volleyball team ended its losing skid here Tuesday evening. Since defeating Eudora on their opening night, the Bulldogs have lost six straight matches, which included a sweep at De Soto last Thursday.

EUDORA — Matt McCune had something to smile about here Tuesday. The Baldwin High School coach’s soccer team won its first game of the 2009 season. The Bulldogs (1-7-1) beat the Cardinals 2-0.

Art Walk finale draws large crowd

Friday’s Baldwin Community Arts Council Art Walk finale was a success, especially considering last year’s version had to be moved inside the lumberyard because of threatening weather.
School district enrollment down, at-risk students up

There was good news and bad news Monday with the Baldwin School District in regards to the 2009-2010 school year. Monday was the official day for state schools to give final enrollment numbers. Those figures will be used for the annual budgets, so an increase or decrease could affect schools’ funding.
City council wants to educate voters on sales tax election

Fourth quarter rally falls short as Bulldogs start 0-3

SPRING HILL — Baldwin High School’s football team nearly made a fourth-quarter comeback to win its first game of the season here Friday. Unfortunately, a dropped pass in the end zone with six seconds left in the game ended that chance. A 13-point rally ended 3 yards short of scoring another touchdown.
Home sweet home for BHS cross country teams

Mike Spielman’s cross country teams had a sweet homecoming Saturday. His Baldwin High School Bulldogs took advantage of their home course. Both teams won the Baldwin Invitational titles and many runners set new personal-best times.
