- There will be 10-20 minute delays on US 24/40 on your way toward Topeka and Kansas City from Lawrence. There will also be minor delays and detours along I-70 and I-435. The weather is dry right now, but there is a chance for showers and storms this morning.

- Mike Spielman’s teams are used to high preseason expectations and they usually don’t disappoint when they bring home state championships and medals.
This year is no exception. The Baldwin High School girls’ cross country team was voted first in the Class 4A preseason coaches’ poll.

- After two games, the Baldwin High School soccer team is winless, but it only has one loss on its record.
The Bulldogs opened the season with a tie at Tonganoxie Friday, before losing their first contest of the season to a perennially talented team, Topeka-Hayden, on Tuesday afternoon.

- When the Baldwin High School football team takes to the field Friday night to begin the season, it’s going to look much different than a year ago.
The 2009 Bulldogs lost 16 seniors from the 2008 squad. They do return five varsity players on offense and four starters on defense, all of whom are ready to start Friday.

- When the Kansas State Fair begins next weekend, MacKenzie Flory will be hoping to continue her summer success.
Flory, a Baldwin High School senior, practically swept the livestock judging at the Douglas County Fair in early August.

- Good news just keeps coming Sue Brown’s way this year. Tuesday she was named the 2009 Director of the Year by the Kansas Health Care Association.
“Wow, what a year,” said Brown, Vintage Park Assisted Living director.

- There are signs in downtown Baldwin City stating “No U-Turn,” “No Left Turn To Park” and “No Bicycles, Skateboards or Rollerblades on Sidewalks.” But largely they are ignored.

- Teachers and students all around the Baldwin School District were pleasantly surprised by a group of visitors Friday morning.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Baldwin Education Foundation “prize patrol” toured the district.
