- CARBONDALE — As the old adage goes, it’s better late than never. That couldn’t be truer for the Baldwin High School football team here Friday night. A disappointing 0-6 start by the Bulldogs has a chance to be reconciled this week. After earning their first win of the season Friday, the Bulldogs are 1-0 in district play.

- LAWRENCE — Tony Weiss didn’t need to outsprint anyone this year to win the Frontier League boys’ cross country title. Weiss had 28 seconds before the next runner crossed the Rim Rock Farm finish line. A year ago, Weiss had to reel in Gardner’s Mitch Loring during the final stretch of Gardner’s home course to win.

- Heading into Saturday’s Class 4A sub-state tournament, Baldwin High School’s volleyball team has no momentum rolling its way. The Bulldogs finished last in the Frontier League Tournament over the weekend. On Tuesday, they lost their senior night against Ottawa.

- Matt McCune was hoping his soccer team was going to earn its second win of the season Tuesday night. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen as he planned. It wasn’t because his Baldwin High School squad lost to its rival Eudora. BHS never had a chance to play the Cardinals.
