Food offerings will once again be sure to please festival crowd
Everyone has a favorite part of the Maple Leaf Festival, but it just may be food that’s either No. 1 on the list or a close second.
There’s something for everyone, whether it’s buffalo burgers, turkey legs, funnel cakes or any other manner of food. One thing is sure — no one has to go hungry.
“No, there’s plenty of food and all varieties,” said Kevin Garber, who is the chairman of the food booths for the first time this year. “Whether you’re a traditionalist or want to try something new, there’s something for everyone.
“We’ve got all the traditional items, such as turkey legs, pulled pork and all the offerings at the Annunciation Catholic Church booth,” said Garber. “A couple of new highlights would be two youth groups. Lighthouse Baptist will have caramel apples and the Nazarene Church will have all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausages for breakfast both mornings.”
A couple of other traditional items aren’t on the booth listings because they have their own locations. Those are the buffalo burgers at the American Legion Hall and the biscuits and gravy breakfast by the Knights of Columbus at the Annunciation booth.
Downtown Baldwin City restaurants aren’t on the list either and will be operating out of their storefronts.
Garber knows the food is always a festival favorite and knows people won’t be disappointed, regardless of what they are after.
“There are people who come for special food every year, but some people are wanting something new,” he said.
