- Downtown Baldwin City is officially ringing in the holidays tonight as the annual Scavenger Hunt and Holiday Bingo kickoff the season. The Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Holiday Hoopla from 5-8 p.m. at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

- Supt. Paul Dorathy and the Baldwin School Board approved the first year of a three-year plan to repair roofs of district buildings at last week’s meeting. However, the big news about district roofs was about the Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center.

- Baldwin City has gone to the international level. Tina Rakes, code administrator for the city, was recently elected to the International Codes Council’s board of directors. She will serve a three-year term on the board, which consists of 18 people from around the country.

- It wasn’t exactly “happy trails to you” from the entire Baldwin City Council Monday night. After a lengthy discussion regarding a resolution to authorize applying for a grant for a hiking and biking trail, the council voted 2-2, with Councilman Robin Bayer absent.

- Kit Harris switched gears quickly from Saturday to Monday as he jumped from junior high school to high school wrestling. It’s become an annual move for the coach. As the Baldwin Junior High School season ends at the Frontier League tournament, he begins preparing for the Baldwin High School season to begin two days later.

- Transitioning from one sport to another can be tough, even though they take place on the same court. If you don’t believe so, just ask Baldwin High School senior Taylor Brown. Although the BHS volleyball season finished more than three weeks ago, Brown said starting basketball is always tough.

- On Monday, the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team hit the court … running. Not necessarily sprints up and down the court to get into shape early in the season. Although coach Eric Toot had his players do some of that Monday afternoon, the Bulldogs got their exercise while using a basketball.

- Baldwin Junior High School’s wrestling team ended its season with a successful Frontier League tournament Saturday in Gardner. The Bulldogs had four champions, a pair of runners-up, seven third-place finishers and two placing fourth.

- With playoff hopes minimal, Baker University’s football team finished it season in dominating fashion at Liston Stadium Saturday afternoon. Baker cruised to a 33-7 victory over Central Methodist. The win locked Baker (7-3) into fourth place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, just ahead of the Eagles (6-4).
- ‘Lil Abner’ set for this weekend

- The cast of this year’s fall musical, “Lil’ Abner,” have been rehearsing three times a week to prepare for opening night on Friday at 7 p.m. and another performance on Saturday.
