- It doesn’t seem to matter on which day the Baldwin High School track and field teams compete because they continue to improve times and marks each week.
On Friday, the Bulldogs were scheduled to run at the Girard Invitational. However, weather in southeast Kansas forced officials to postpone the meet until Monday.

Signs of a young team’s improvements are often hard to see by the casual fan.

- It seems like a broken record, but once again the Baldwin Junior High School track and field teams continue to set new school records.
On April 28, the Bulldogs hosted a meet and broke four BJHS records. The Bulldogs won 19 events at their home meet.

- EUDORA — Just when things looked bleak for the Baldwin High School softball team here Tuesday, smiles appeared from the BHS dugout.
No, the Baldwin players weren’t smiling about the 7-4 defeat in the first game. Nor were they smiling about the 6-0 deficit in the second contest of the doubleheader.
It was almost like a scene out of a Hollywood movie.

Before the Wildcats could finish second and third at the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship meet on Saturday in Fayette, Mo., they had to finish with flair.

- By now, we’re all used to the mantra of “do more with less” during these tough economic times. It’s a fact of life.
We’ve seen all too well here in Baldwin City the same problems that are occurring nationwide — layoffs, bankruptcies and foreclosures. We’re not immune.
