RWD 4 files motion for attorney fees

Douglas County Rural Water District No. 4 filed a motion for attorney fees that resulted from its lawsuit with the City of Eudora. RWD 4 filed the motion last week requesting U.S. District Judge Julie A. Robinson award court costs totaling $743,904.72.

BHS coaches enjoying state rule change

Baldwin High School basketball, football and volleyball coaches are enjoying their first summer to coach their athletes. In fact, it’s happening all around the state for the first time. Changes to a Kansas State High School Activities Association rule has pleased the Bulldogs’ coaches.

Bond issue work starts to heat up around town

While weather has hampered dirt work for the new ball fields, work crews have continued remodeling Baldwin Junior High School’s corridors. The first two projects of the $22.9 million bond issue passed in November are underway. Supt. Paul Dorathy gave the Baldwin School Board a quick update at Monday night’s meeting.

Running Club’s first-ever event deemed a success

Baldwin Running Club’s first-ever event drew more than two-dozen participants Saturday morning. A total of 25 runners showed up for the Baldwin Biped 5-kilometer race at the Baldwin City Municipal Golf Course.

In one year, the Frontier League will again shrink in size. A once large, 13-team conference will be nearly half that size in the fall of 2010. Two years ago, the five smallest schools formed their own league. Now the largest school is moving on.

Before weather shortened the event, McFarlane Aviation recorded its highest number of participants at its annual Young Eagles program. In conjunction with the Planes, Trains and Automobiles event in Baldwin City, McFarlane Aviation offers free rides to children ages 8-17 during the morning.
