Heat advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Douglas County and surrounding counties until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A more severe, excessive heat warning is in effect for counties in the Kansas City metro area. According to the weather service, heat indexes will be between 105 and 110 today and 105 on Wednesday.
The National Weather Services urged everyone to avoid prolonged exposure to the heat, if possible.
6News Meteorologist Alex Harrington said that heat waves are responsible for more direct deaths in the United States than any other weather-related hazard, except extreme cold.
