Police caution about having too much Fourth fun
July 2, 2009
Fourth of July celebrations are ready to roll, but Baldwin City Police will be on the lookout for too much fun and urge residents to be cautious with fireworks.
“We want to remind people not to drink and drive,” said Police Chief Mike McKenna. “It’s a mistake to get behind the wheel after drinking. As always, we will have zero tolerance for that in Baldwin City. We will be asking those suspected to take a breath test and field sobriety test. If they fail, they will be arrested.
“If they drink and drive, they’ll lose,” said McKenna. “We want everyone to be here after the holiday.”
He also sounded the warning for using fireworks safely.
“Use the fireworks in the manner in which they were intended,” he said. “Read the instructions and follow the instructions. Have a pail of water available. After the fireworks have been shot, put them in the water.
“We want it to be an enjoyable year and a fun event for everyone and that requires following the safety rules,” said McKenna.
