Baldwin City Police Report

July 2, 2009

Baldwin City police arrested a 37-year-old Baldwin City man at 11 p.m. Monday at Ames and Sixth streets for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police Chief Mike McKenna said an officer saw the man run a red light while driving a motorcycle and he was stopped. A strong odor of alcohol was detected and the officer observed an open can of beer.

McKenna said the man had a hard time talking to the officer and failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested for DUI, open container, refusing to take a breathalyzer test and running the red light. He was taken to Douglas County Jail.

A 17-year-old Lawrence youth was released to his mother after an officer discovered a homemade marijuana-smoking device in his vehicle. The officer saw the vehicle parked in West Park in the 1100 block of High Street around midnight Monday.

Officers arrested a 28-year-old Lawrence man at 10:30 p.m. June 23 in the 500 block of Ames for driving with a suspended license. He had been stopped for speeding and didn’t have a license. He was taken to jail.
