With the filing deadline past for Baldwin City Council and Baldwin School Board positions, two additional people have filed and one has withdrawn. That leaves a slate of five council, three mayor and three school board candidates for the April 7 election.

Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew said Tom Farmer and Chris Nichols have filed for city council. Dan Broers withdrew his name from the ballot. No additional school board candidates have filed, leaving the three incumbents unopposed. They are Ande Parks, Bill Busby and Ruth Barkley.

The candidates for mayor are incumbent Gary Walbridge, current Council Member Ken Wagner and former Council Member George McCrary. The other three candidates for council are Rick Gere, Bonnie Plumberg and Russ Gill.

Georgie, Georgie, Georgie. We were hoping that common sense would get the better of you and you would withdraw prior to the deadline. But since you teed it up, prepare for a thrashing.

You let us down before when you bailed on City Council only shortly into your term. People will remember that. We'll make sure of it.

A little word of advice that might have helped you last time ... if you make promises to people, be prepared to stand behind those promises and defend them. Don't cower away and leave us to clean up your messes.

Your not alone in having a long memory. And no amount of grinning and obnoxious laughing is going to save your hide. We know what you are, and we will make sure that everyone gets the full 360 degree view of you. Bailing on the council, the cops, and the public trust is going to cost you dearly.....

You two are ridiculous. Does it make you feel bigger to bully and bitch behind your computer screen? It's one thing to discuss opinions and views but completely another to make mean-spirited and PERSONAL comments about a man who shows an interest in his community. Leave the petty little back stabbling out of it, why don't you? It serves no purpose other then to make you look jealous, immature, and vindictive. Do you really have nothing else going on that you have to dwell on something like this?

I'm sure if you had your way we'd never be given a choice and that Baldwin would stay the same little place where YOU feel important. Shame on you. Disagree with him all you want but keep the personal comments about a man's personality out of it. He has a family, for God's sake. Do you? Grow up.

Sorry Cranky. I have to support the other two posters.

If you're going to be in the public spotlight you have to take the hits - regardless where they come from. Just because someone posts from 'behind their computer screen' doesn't make the commentary less valid.

Indeed, in a town like this where your children can be abused by others because of your stance on local politics this is the best place to express an opinion.

Cranky Ok since you opened the door for discussion lets approach it this way. Do you think that public leaders should take there oath of office seriously? Do you think a thoughtful person will consider family and obligations prior to running? And that if priorities change he should honor his promise made to his friends, his enemies, his community, regardless of what changes in his personal world?. Do you trust someone that talks to both sides of a situation and promises both the moon and stars then seems perplexed when he cant appease both? And that the only logical solution is to bail out. THEN wants that trust extended to him again? Cranky the stakes are two high and the consequences are way to serious to have a showboating baffoon as mayor. We cant afford nor survive someone that is running for limelight and ego not our communities welfare. Back slapping and a donkey bray for a laugh isnt going to get our city back on track. A donkey laugh....humm....donkey george...how fitting....

It's difficult for me to take your point of view seriously when you insist on taking immature, cheap pot shots. Obviously this vendetta you have is extremely personal. I'm sorry that it apparently eats you alive. Maybe you need a good work out and then you'll have a smile and a laugh for others as well. Just a thought!

This is why a lot of good people don't run for public office. Be glad we have choices for the mayor and council. Apparently everyone is happy with the decisions the school board is making!?!?
