BALDWIN CITY — A last-second, halfcourt shot bounced off the rim as time expired, leaving the Baldwin High boys’ basketball two points shy of victory here Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (6-4) fell 50-48 to Kansas City Christian in the championship game of the 40th annual Baldwin Invitational Tournament. Justin Vander Tuig scored a game-high 24 points as Brandon Tommer added 16 for the Bulldogs.

“I thought we lacked a little intensity tonight, which surprised me for a championship game,” Baldwin coach Eric Toot said. “I don’t think we had the focus that we had on Friday, especially defensively.”

Both Vander Tuig and Tommer made the all-tournament team. Vander Tuig led all scorers with 60 points for the tournament. The Panthers’ Terrance Pratt and Matt Steadman also made the all-tournament team.

Baldwin won the previous home tournaments.
