Fast start boosts BHS boys

ALLEN — A quick, 13-0 run to start Tuesday’s basketball contest here propelled the Baldwin High School boys’ team to victory. It was exactly what the Bulldogs needed to recover from a 12-point loss at home to De Soto on Friday. An hour road trip to Northern Heights didn’t slow the Bulldogs down as they cruised to a 61-50 victory over the Wildcats. BHS is now 7-5 on the season.

Callahan leads BHS wrestlers at home tournament

For the first time since 2006, a new team emerged as champion of the Baldwin Invitational wrestling tournament. On Saturday, Abilene took down the three-time reigning title-holder, Oak Park (Mo.). In fact, several teams defeated the Northmen, but Abilene brought home the title by scoring 264 points.

School district, city officials discuss bond projects

Supt. Paul Dorathy held a special meeting with local officials to discuss the Baldwin School District’s bond issue projects Friday. Annexation of district property, city streets and access to new facilities were the primary topics at the meeting. Recommendations were made to the DLR architects by the local officials on the three projects.
Lack of quorum stops city council

It was a world’s record at Monday’s Baldwin City Council meeting — shortest meeting ever. With newly-appointed Council Member Mike Magers out of town and the absence of Council Member Doyle Jardon, there were only three council members and the mayor. That meant no meeting.

Tom Russell has been painting for 75 years. At 92, he can’t think of anything he would rather have done. “Oh, Lord, yes, I love it,” said Russell from his Baldwin City studio where he was working on his latest painting. “I don’t know what else I would have done.”
Bulldogs ‘lethargic’ Tuesday after tournament

ALLEN — Things just didn’t click here Tuesday for the Baldwin High girls’ basketball team. Northern.Heights took advantage of an early 15-2 run as it rolled over the Bulldogs, 53-34. Baldwin (6-7) lost its third straight game to fall below .500 on the season.
