To the editor: Last Sunday night I decided to go to “Open Gym” and play basketball at Baldwin High School. When I pulled in at 6:15 p.m., I saw only one car in the parking lot. I went inside to find two junior high kids and the supervisor getting ready to leave.
Sewer project will be cheaper than projected

Phase 2 of the relief sewer project got the green light at Monday’s Baldwin City Council meeting … and at a good price. The council approved the low bid by Meadows Construction of Tonganoxie for $589,082.40. That was well under the project engineer’s estimate of $726,909.50. But that’s how the whole project has gone.

BCRC ball field proposal is made to school board

Steve Friend has proposed a joint agreement with the Baldwin School District about usage and maintenance of all district athletic fields. Although the agreement is packed with ideas, the biggest change from the current policy would be the utility payments.
Neis to take helm as chief of police

Greg Neis was hired Tuesday as the new police chief for the Baldwin City Police Department. He had been interim police chief since Aug. 6, when Mike McKenna resigned the post.
Shoemaker, Hanson lead BHS wrestlers at Harrisonville

In its final tune-up before winter break, the Baldwin High School wrestling team arguably had its best showing at the Harrisonville (Mo.) Christmas Tournament. Baldwin wasn’t able to fill three weight classes at the tournament. Despite the lack of a full roster, the Bulldogs finished 14th as a team out of 24 teams.
Metro Academy hands Bulldogs their third loss

For the first time all season, an opponent’s three-point shooting doomed the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team. On Friday night, Metro Academy, out of Olathe, spoiled Baldwin’s final home contest before the winter break. Metro Academy sank seven three-pointers as it defeated Baldwin 51-34.
