BHS girls beat De Soto; boys fall to Wildcats

Girls basketball

Baldwin — 51

De Soto — 40

Fourth quarter free throws helped the Baldwin High girls’ basketball team rally to beat De Soto here Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs sank 15 of 23 free throws in the final quarter to help them beat the Wildcats 51-40. The Bulldogs made 10 of their last 12 foul shots to help secure the victory.

A trio of Baldwin players scored 11 points each to led the team. They were Katie Brecheisen, Ramie Burkhart and Allison Howard.

Baldwin will host Metro Academy, while De Soto will play Atchison at home on Friday.

Boys basketball

Mason Wedel drained a trio of three-pointers during the second quarter that boosted the De Soto High boys’ basketball squad to a road victory here Tuesday.

Wedel scored a game-high 17 points as the Wildcats beat Baldwin 51-41. Kyle McCulloch added 11 points to the win.

Shortly after the Bulldogs took an 18-15 lead in the second quarter, Wedel caught fire from behind the arc. He made all three of his outside shots during that three-minute stretch before halftime.

De Soto took a 27-22 lead into halftime and maintained a lead for the remainder of the game. Baldwin never got any closer as it dropped its second straight game.

Baldwin will host Metro Academy, while De Soto will play Atchison at home on Friday.
