- GARDNER — Bryce Shoemaker took offense to his seeding in the 103-pound weight class here Saturday.
In his inaugural prep tournament, the Baldwin High School freshman was seeded fourth in his pool. Although he was preseason ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, his seeding Saturday didn’t sit well with him before the tournament.

- On Wednesday morning, the Baldwin School Board held a brief, special meeting to ratify the remaining millions on the 2008 bond issue.

- A different sort of ribbon cutting will take place Saturday when the new trail from Signal Ridge to FireTree is opened by the volunteers who built it, along with members of the city staff, council, etc. David Simmons and Christi Daniels were responsible for a great deal of the work and answered questions.

- Matthew Potterton presented himself front and center for an entire song during his first-ever Baker University Christmas Candlelight Vespers, which was performed for the 79th straight time Sunday.
In the middle of the program, Potterton sang a solo as the Baker orchestra performed behind him.

- RICHMOND — Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team used long-range shooting to pull away from Central Heights en route to a victory here Friday night.

- RICHMOND — All of the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team’s points were scored by post players here Friday night — except eight.
A pair of junior guards scored those eight points. The remaining 45 were scored by four of the Bulldogs’ tallest players.

- BURLINGTON — Shooting woes and too many turnovers doomed the Baldwin High School varsity basketball teams here Tuesday in the opening game of the third annual Bulldog/Wildcat Classic.
Both BHS teams struggled shooting field goals and free throws as they each fell to 1-1 on the season. The BHS girls lost 59-50 to Louisburg, while the boys were defeated 57-40.

- It was good news, bad news for residents at Monday night’s Baldwin City Council meeting.
The good news was that a possible water rate hike won’t happen. The bad news was that the “firmer” numbers on a proposed hiking and biking trail the council is seeking an 80 percent matching grant for came in around three times higher than first thought.
