As routine roadwork continues, you can expect to see the same minor delays that have been plaguing your morning commute the last few days. The rain from early this morning should mostly be past our area so the roads should be dry.
First BHS fall practices forced inside

Baldwin High School’s fall sports teams got off to a rough start Monday morning. Lightning bolts and thunderstorms rolled through the area during the morning. That forced the BHS football and cross country teams to hold their first practices of the 2009 season inside.
Bulldog Days ends with special guest visit

Record crowds and t-shirt recipients were the primary highlights of Baldwin City’s summer workout program known as Bulldog Days. However, participants on the final night were treated to a special guest. Don “Red Dog” Gardner attended the final session Friday evening at Liston Stadium.
Towns wins $25,000 on lottery ticket
August 20, 2009
Zachary Towns gambled and won — $25,000, to be exact. The 22-year-old Baldwin City resident and Baker University student purchased a lucky lottery ticket. “It was pretty wild,” Towns said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Fitness to rule

Lez Luckett of Lawrence was a winner in the NBC Show “The Biggest Loser” during its fourth season. He lost 150 pounds and has kept most of it off. He’ll be in Baldwin City for Saturday’s “Small Town Big Cause 5K Run/Walk.”

Art Walk takes streets Friday in Baldwin City

The Baldwin Community Arts Council will have its August Art Walk at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday downtown.
Sales tax still at issue for city council

Baldwin City Council members are sure they want to put sales tax questions before voters, but they’re not sure how. At Monday’s meeting, the council was presented with two propositions, each asking voters for a half-cent sales tax.
102nd Vinland Fair concluded Saturday

It’s summertime and the living is easy, especially if you were at the Vinland Fair. “It’s down home, country fun for the whole family,” said Eva Durand, Baldwin City, whose children were among the throng of competitors in various contests Friday.
