McKenna resigns as chief of Baldwin City Police Department

Mike McKenna, who has been Baldwin City police chief since January of 2003, resigned today. The resignation is effective immediately.

Area 4-H’ers — past and present — have taken over the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Lawrence this week. It’s the current 4-H’ers who will be winning ribbons and trophies at the annual county fair, but it’s the former members who help organize and run the contests each summer.

Sales tax a topic for city council

A half-cent sales tax implemented in 2000 could be extended, and possibly raised, if the Baldwin City Council puts the matter before voters. The sales tax was started to pay for the $1 million-plus Baldwin City Municipal Pool. It worked so well that the pool will be paid off five years ahead of schedule.
Former Bulldogs enjoy Shrine Bowl weekend

Baldwin High School was once again well represented at the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl football game and cross country road run. The summer all-star special featured four 2009 BHS graduates. They all took part in the weekend festivities and the game and run, which were July 25 in Wichita.
