WELLSVILLE — Nate Growcock seized the opportunity to help his team win its first game of the season here last Thursday. With the bases loaded and gusty winds blowing from home plate to the outfield, the Baldwin High School sophomore knocked a ball over the center field fence.

The Baldwin City Public Library had its annual “Night of 1,000 Stars” last week. Dan Rosenthal, Friends of the Library president, answered questions regarding the event.
Good news comes for bond issue projects

Signs are pointed in the right direction when it comes to large dollar figures on the Baldwin School District bond issue projects. Two signs were on display Monday night at the Baldwin School Board meeting.
VES parents storm board meeting for McCune

Support to keep Matt McCune as a Vinland Elementary School teacher came out in droves … once again. Parents and families packed the District Office on Monday night for another Baldwin School Board meeting. More than two dozen people were there to defend the VES third-grade teacher.
Weather smiles on Easter egg hunt

On Saturday morning, the sun was shining on Baldwin City and its youthful Easter egg hunters. For the first time in three years, the annual Rainbow Experience Preschool event was outside. Local residents took advantage of the weather and covered Baker University’s campus.
BHS boys tune up for Kansas Relays

Mike Spielman used Tuesday’s annual Baker Relays as a warm-up for his Baldwin High School boys’ track team’s bigger meet this week. While all of the Bulldogs competed at their second home meet of the season, some of Bulldogs used the meet as a warm up for the Kansas Relays.

BHS distance runner breaks girl’s steeplechase school record

In a matter of five days, the Baldwin High School girls’ track team has competed against a handful of much larger schools at two different meets. Last Thursday and Friday, the Bulldogs were in Wichita for the annual KT Woodman Invitational, which was renamed the Shocker Pre-State Invitational this year.
Franklin to speak at Baker

Bernard Franklin, Vice Chancellor of Advancement and Entrepreneurship and President of Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley, will speak at Baker University’s weekly worship service at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 23, at Osborne Chapel on the Baldwin City campus.
