BJHS seventh graders win Eudora Tournament
All four Baldwin Junior High School volleyball teams are having successful seasons.
One of the squads is currently undefeated and none of the teams have a losing record. All four teams played Louisburg Monday and three of them came out victorious.
Leading the way this season is the seventh grade varsity team. The Bulldogs are 12-0 after beating Louisburg twice Monday. They won the first match 25-12 and 25-19. The second match was closer, but Baldwin still won 25-20 and 25-22.
The seventh grade varsity team also won the Eudora Tournament on Sept. 13. They swept the tournament, earning victories against Osawatomie, Clark (Bonner Springs), Tonganoxie and Paola middle schools.
"They're the best passing team I've ever had," coach Marilee Valentine said after the tournament. "Morgan Lober and Hailey Cope had some good hits from the middle."
The eighth grade varsity currently has a winning record of 5-3. This team also swept Louisburg, winning the first match 19-25, 25-17 and 25-19 before winning the second game 20-25, 25-14 and 25-13.
The eighth grade varsity team will play at the Eudora Tournament Saturday. The action begins at 9 a.m.
Both junior varsity teams are 6-6 on the season. The seventh grade JV beat Louisburg 25-20, 25-16 and 25-16, 25-16.
The eighth grade JV lost to Louisburg in three games each match. However, the Bulldogs did place fourth in the Tonganoxie Tournament on Sept. 13.
"I felt the girls played hard and were extremely competitive all day," coach Brenda Shawley said. "Our serving was outstanding and at times during high pressure situations. We stress the importance of giving your team a chance to win a point or a game with serving. The girls certainly did this and I'm really proud of them for their efforts."
All four BJHS teams will play Ottawa Monday. The seventh graders are at Ottawa, while the eighth graders play at home.
