BHS soccer team crushes Eudora
October 23, 2008
Baldwin High School’s soccer team picked up an easy win last Thursday against Eudora.
The Bulldogs beat the Cardinals 5-1 in their final home game of the season.
“It was a great win,” coach Matt McCune said. “We finally kind of clicked together and it was nice for the seniors to get another win.
“We’ve been trying out different combinations all year and we stuck some freshmen up front and they came through for us,” he said. “We played well and the team was in the right mindset to play. I think they really wanted to get that win.”
McCune was especially pleased to see his team score a few goals after it had been shut out in four consecutive games.
“One of our game points was to score,” McCune said. “We just haven’t been doing it. I think we went four games in a row without scoring a goal. It was nice to get multiple goals in one game.”
Freshman Louis Joslyn scored three of Baldwin’s five goals in the game. Junior Levi Moore and freshman Shawn Berndt had the other goals for BHS.
“Louis Joslyn got a hat trick and he is now our leading scorer for the year,” McCune said. “Shawn Berndt is right behind him, so our leading scorers are freshmen. That’s a good sign for the future.”
Baldwin was supposed to play at De Soto on Tuesday, but weather forced administrators to cancel the game. BHS will begin its regional action next week, but its opponent, game time or location have not been determined.
“I think we’re ready,” McCune said. “We might end up playing at Louisburg or Coffeyville. We don’t want to play at Louisburg, because their field is way too small.”
